# User

> Who started the run.

Every run knows who started it: the handler gets that user in `ctx.user`.

## Usage

```ts theme={null}
export const hello = app.action({
  name: 'Hello',
  handler: async (io, ctx) => {
    const message = await io.input.text(`Hi ${ctx.user.name}, what should we log?`);
    console.info(`${ctx.user.email} wrote: ${message}`);
    return { message };
  },
});
```

## Value

| Field | Type | Description |
| - | - | - |
| `email` | `string` | The user's email, lowercase, as listed in `users`. |
| `name` | `string` | The user's name from `users`. |

The password hash is never part of it.

## Who can see a run

A run belongs to the user who started it. Its page, its answers and canceling it are open only to that user; anyone else gets `404`, as if the run did not exist. Every user listed in [`users`](/core/users) sees and can start every action.
